You can’t fight what you haven’t mapped. Name the moments before they own you.
Nobody steps on a landmine on purpose. You walk into it because you didn’t know it was there — or you did know and forgot to pay attention. Your triggers work the same way. They’re not random. They’re predictable. And the only reason they keep detonating is because you haven’t mapped them yet.
Knowing your triggers isn’t paranoia — it’s wisdom. It’s the difference between a man who reacts and a man who chooses. God gave you a mind capable of self-awareness. Using it isn’t a lack of faith. It’s the kind of sober-minded alertness Scripture calls you to.
“The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”
Proverbs 22:3
What emotional state are you almost always in before you fall? Bored? Lonely? Stressed? Rejected? Be specific.
Lord, I don't want to keep stepping on the same landmines. I've been surprised too many times by things that weren't actually surprises — I just wasn't paying attention. Give me the self-awareness to map what I've been avoiding looking at. Show me the emotions, the times, the places, the circumstances that make me most vulnerable. I don't want to be a man who reacts — I want to be a man who chooses. You've given me a mind capable of seeing what's coming. Help me use it. Make me sober-minded and alert — not paranoid, but prepared. And when I identify the landmines, give me the courage to share that map with someone who can help me navigate it. Awareness is the first act of defense. Let it start today. Amen.
Write your trigger map this week — emotional and situational. Post it somewhere you’ll see it. Awareness is the first act of defense.
